Dear Leelanau School Alumni,
We’ve never been more eager to see you, yet we write with unfortunate news about the June Alumni Weekend. As members of our Leelanau community, your health is so important to us. With this in mind, let’s plan to gather in spirit and hopefulness instead of in person.
First and foremost, we hope you, your families, and friends remain safe and well as the world copes with the COVID-19 pandemic. We are encouraged by seeing people across the country supporting each other and working together as a community, to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The Leelanau community is also working diligently to ensure the safety and health of all students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
When our students were mandated to leave campus on March 13, 2020, we immediately instituted distance learning platforms for our students and our faculty and staff to use as they work safely from their homes. Students remain engaged in all of their classes, are being fully and fairly assessed, earning credits, and seniors continue to work to achieve the high standards of a Leelanau diploma. We are continuing to provide the best Leelanau education possible. You can be very proud of what students and staff are accomplishing together.
Currently, Michigan is under a stay-at-home order. At this point, it is difficult to predict when the situation will allow for the relaxing of the order, or what conditions will be placed on gathering sizes. We recognize you cannot wait to make your Alumni Weekend travel, lodging, and vendor arrangements at the last minute. Therefore, as we considered your needs, as well as our advanced planning needs, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel our Alumni Weekend 2020, originally scheduled for June 26-28, 2020.
The decision to cancel the Alumni Weekend will be disappointing for many of you. We are disappointed as well! At the same time, we wanted to let you know as early as possible.
That said, we are resilient and resourceful. In the coming months, we encourage you to help us and each other to find ways to connect. While this is the right decision, we will miss seeing everyone and celebrating the reunion of the decades coming ‘Back to School’! We look forward to the day when we are all able to come together again, as we have before, to celebrate and reconnect with our Leelanau family.
Thank you to all who attended our 2019 – 90th Anniversary2020欧洲杯在线投注 Reunion. It was great to have ancestors of Skipper and Cora Beals (the Van Cleve’s) and Major and Helen Huey (the Huey’s) join us for the event.
A special thanks to Scott Hedburg for all of his efforts from invites to creating a beautiful calendar for the occasion and to H. Hope O’Quinn Hanna for her part in the large 50th reunion group of 1969 grads.
